They believed that the four humours: blood, yellow bile, black bile, and phlegm, were responsible for the personality characteristics. For example, a blood imbalance is seen as the aggressiveness in self-centred people. They also believed that there was a physical explanation for dreams.
Body
In the body, they believed that it was consisted of the four humours, To stay healthy, all four humours would need to be balanced.
Spirit
Hippocrates dismissed the idea that the spirits, magic or gods could cause or cure disease. Many believed that everything was comprised of the four elements: air, water, fire and earth. He thought that the physical things like human action and four seasons were responsible for disease and healing. When one or more of the humours were unstable, treatments and prescribed to restore balance. Common therapies include laxatives, purging, and bleeding. Most treatments also involve rest, fresh air, good food, and water. In addition, herbal remedies are used to treat pain while a disease runs its natural course.
